Feeling stuck on how to go about finding your perfect creative niche? I’ve been there. In fact, I’m still there with you. However, I’ve come across a concept that might just make you want to jump in and get started on your creative path.
When trying to find your own creative niche, there’s really only two major ways to go about it. You can either let it come to you or you can go out and find it. Genius, right? There’s more to it, I promise you, lol.
Allow me to explain.
In many aspects of life, you’ll often find two ways to go about doing anything (finding your creative niche in this case). Either through “masculine” energy (exerting/achievement/logic-based energy) or “feminine” energy (receiving/emotion/relationship-based energy). Now, that’s not to say that just because you’re a female, you can’t use masculine energy or vice versa.
That’s not what I’m saying at all.
The type of energy that you use isn’t dependent on your sex, gender, or what you identify as, etc. It’s simply just the energy surrounding you and the energy you put forth to find your creative niche (or whatever you’re trying to accomplish).
Both are viable ways to find your creative niche. And many creatives have found success with either method. But there’s an important distinction between the two.
One path may lead you to success, while the other may end up becoming a dead-end (and a death-sentence to your creativity).
It really just depends on you. Who you are as a creative and which path comes naturally to you. Which path resonates most with you. Again, both are viable ways to achieve success!
This is one of the most important things to consider when deciding on which path to take to find your creative niche.
Now let’s talk about each energy type in a bit more detail.
First up, masculine energy. This energy type is for those that prefer to go out and find their niche, logically. It’s energy that is much more aggressive.
Not in a bad way.
Many might consider people with this type of energy to be “go-getters.” They go out and (you guessed it) get what they want. This type of energy is used in a lot of mainstream business/sales practices. Think used car or door-to-door salespeople.
(Or if you’re a millennial like me… typical YouTuber or Twitch streamer energy).
Again, it’s not a bad type of energy, as many people have found their creative niches this way.
Next, let’s talk about feminine energy.
Those that prefer to use this energy-type prefer to use emotion rather than logic and planning as they go through life. People who identify as “intuitive” and/or “feelers” usually gravitate toward this type. With feminine energy, you would simply put something out into the world (a piece of writing, artwork, etc.) receive some feedback from the universe. You see what comes back. Then adjust and dig deeper and deeper until you find your perfect niche.
This concept of masculine vs feminine energy is something I learned from author and writing coach, Lauren Sapala. If you’ve never heard of her and you find this stuff about different energies useful, I highly recommend looking her up (I’m not an affiliate or anything, I just really love her work).
Overall, it really is a reiterative process in that there’s a lot of push and pull or give and take. It can sort of feel like playing catch with the world, lol.
So if you’re trying to find your creative niche, there’s really only two fundamental ways.
You can try using masculine energy to logically plan, research, and analyze to come up with the potential answer before-hand. And try to nail your niche down before you even get started.
OR
You can try your hand at feminine energy, where you’ll start with something general. Like painting or photography. Some kind of BIG idea. Then, over time, you dig deeper over and over until you get to a niche you absolutely love.
